I have come to realize that if there is a job to be done that requires the strength and heft of a fixed blade knife, I always end up using a machete. I can buy Brazilian made Tramontinas in every supermarket or hardware shop in about 5 different sizes for between 7 and 12 dollars. They need some sharpening but once in shape they outperform any “normal” fixed blade knife I ever owned by a mile.
Don’t get me wrong, I still use fixed blade knives and if I saw one that tickles my fancy I wouldn’t hesitate to buy it. I just don’t use them for tasks that couldn’t be performed by one of my folders as well.
What is your take on this?

In my knife collection, only 4% are fixed blade. Fixed blades will outperform on certain task like prying. I only carry fixed blade when I am camping.
I work in an office environment so folders are my choice of blade...If I carried a fixed blade to work...co-workers think I am going postal...LoL.

I also have very few fixed blades. I do have use for them in the garden and when hiking and camping but as i said, i always fall back on the machete, cheap and effective.

I take my Izula clone for a bimble in the woods (I love this little knife)and have a Chris Reeve Professional Soldier clone on it's way to me just for a look-see; but on the whole I tend to use folders for day to day stuff. I do have a few more fixed blades but they make up maybe only 15-20% of my collection.
And you're right; there are very cutting few tasks (that I do regularly) that couldn't/shouldn't be done with a folder.

Just to update...
My CR clone came and it is sweet. THe sheath is a little rattly and the blade is a little thick behind the edge but elsewise easily on par with the quality of the high end Izula clone. Comfy 3 finger grip with excellent jimping fore and aft. It almost but not quite replaced my Izula as my woods carry. I can get 4 fingers on the Izula more comfortably and its neutral handle shape is more forgiving in various orientations.
Still a cracking little skeletonised knife.
Mine is the high end clone but like the Izula there also is a low end ($4) clone that doesn't have the champfered edges, kydex sheath or blade coating.
