If you dont know Rockstead knives , they are made in Japan using premium materials and made to a very high standard .
Also they carry a matching price tag , ..... If you dont have a few grand to spare ? ( $1250 USD ) Then much like me you will have to do with window shopping .
Then I heard about a Chinese clone , which is not a great clone , well it is in outward appearance ..
The genuine is Frame Lock whilst the clone uses a liner lock .
And the clone is no premium build ...
I pulled the clone apart to tighten up the liner lock ...
THe blade runs on some (?) nylon bushes (?)
The blade locks up tight with no play .
Is paper slicing sharp out of the box ..
I did strop the blade and there was some crunching ( bur ? )
Next I will slice some rope with the factory edge .
A) Factory edge returned a very poor 50 slice FAIL ... Started off really strong and petered out as I reached for 50 slices .
B) I then put the knife to the wet stone grinder ..
One side was really good , the other side was really FUBAR !
Almost like two different people ground that bevel ..
C) Anyways , the ground edge did a 250 FAIL on the rope . Probably the best I have seen from 440 ? ( Chinese )
That's at the upper reaches of average performance .
For the money , I can't complain .
A tight knife with no slop / play .
Cuts well , feels decent in the hand .
Controllable , and precise .
If you can forgive the stolen name , the rip design .. It's a decent knife for the money .
Now all that company has to do is put their own name on the knife and design something that belongs to them .
