I was intrigued by the design of these knives as soon as they appeared on AE. Besides of the blade style, there is only one difference between the 2 knives: the jimping on the tanto‘s spine ends at the opening hole while the drop point's jimping goes about 2 cm further. Apart from that they are identical.
These Twosuns are another example of how amazing a knife can be that sells for under 20$, fit & finish on both is flawless. The brushed stainless steel handles are impeccably machined, the frame lock is cut with amazing precision and there is not a single sharp point or unfinished edge. Interestingly, the ergonomics are better if you have smaller hands despite of the size of the knives. The knives are 13mm thick, the right side tip up only clip adds 3mm. Clipped inside a pocket, 25mm of the handle protrude from the seam. As to be expected, these knives are heavy, the drop point weighs 280 grams, the tanto 276 grams. A lanyard can be attached.
The blades are 9Cr18MoV and hollow ground. Both open very smoothly with the large opening hole. There is zero blade play and both are perfectly centered. The frame lockup is rock solid, the tanto had a small amount of lock stick but that evened out over time. The detent is just right. Out of the box the knives were reasonably sharp, they are easy to sharpen but edge retention is not outstanding.
I use these knives at work for cutting rubber and plastic hoses, polypropylene and sisal rope, stripping wires, slicing bags, scraping, light prying and similar tasks. If you enjoy large, heavy folders you will not be disappointed in either model, I am very happy with the quality and finish of both blades, despite their weight I use both of them regularly and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy them again.
