A while back it dawned on me that I hadn't bought a two hand opening, one bladed slipjoint or backlock knife for decades. So I was browsing AE for some modern slipjoints i.e. classic shapes but with a contemporary spin to it. And Brother 1507 poped up. I don't know whether this is an original or a copy of an existing design. Close to 40$ seemed steep for a backlock but it had good reviews so I went for it. It arrived in a cheap cardboard box and some bubble and was squeaky clean, not a drop of oil on it.
The knife looked and felt really nice, right away. The carbon fiber scales look spectacular with that hologram like reflection of the woven fabric, pictures really don't do it justice. The handle is smooth, all edges line up perfectly, I cannot feel the pins on the surface or the gap between the bolster and the scales and the butt and the scales.
However, the stainless steel inlay you can feel a tiny bit and I found one slightly rough corner on the bolster. 2 gentle passes with a small file sorted that out. Otherwise the handle is really well made and looks modern yet inoffensive. I really like that brushed stailness steel and CF.
The flat ground clip point blade is advertised as VG10, so far it hasn't shown any sign of stain, patina or rust and it is easy to get very sharp so who knows, it might just be. The detent is strong enough to keep the blde safely closed in the pocket but light enough that, with a little practice you can pinch the blade between middle finger and thumb and open it one handed. The backlock engages with satisfaction and the lock needs a reasonable amount of pressure to unlock, then the blade swings freely with very little resistance.
I was a bit hesitant about this knife, for a seemingly total newcomer brand the price tag for a small lockback seemed steep but the raving reviews were real, the 1507 is a great little pocket knife! Around the house and off work I hardly carry anything else since I receiced this and 3 others similar to it. It is so comfortable to carry in any pocket, without the clip it is smooth and slips out of the way when you sit down, I like that a lot. But best of it, it is up to all the cutting tasks your day requires.
