The instant I saw the G722 I knew I had to have it. I really enjoy the G720 despite not being a fan of the axis lock so the 722 was even more up my alley! I got it from AE for under 22$ early this year and I was not disappointed!
Yet again Ganzo has delivered another incredible knife that I would happily pay triple the price. It looks and feels amazing. It is a big and heavy knife with a slab of G10 and a stonewashed slab of stainless steel. The frame lock is cut with incredible tolerances, the gap of the lock bar is barely visible! A feature I have not seen before on any knife in this price range is a lock bar stabilizer and the 722 has a fully adjstable one! Everything is put together incredibly well, fit & finish are flawless. While I find the aestethics of the G10 handle not very appealing compared to the G720, the grip it provides is excellent and it is apparent that someone has put some serious thoughts into the design. The knife is safe and comfortable to hold in any position. The deep carry pocket clip is tip up only, left & right side with nothing of the handle protruding. The knife has a large lanyard hole.
The 3.8mm thick drop point blade is made of 440C steel and has a high flat grind. The stubby thumb ramp has jimping that is not overly grippy but it works. The ambidextrous studs are nicely machined and very easy to operate with your thumb only. However, the edges of the studs on my knife were on the sharp side and I did a few gentle passes with a file to make them less aggressive. Action of the blade is supremely smooth, the lock is rock solid and there is zero play in any direction. The closed blade is a slight bit off center. Out of the box it was dull but it takes a good edge and retains it reasonably well. I am using the knife at work for all sorts of tasks and I find it useful in most situations despite the large blade. The build quality allows to apply plenty of force and that will compensate for the heft of the blade but it is not the best slicer out there, such a thick blade never is.
Heavy, large folders are not everybody’s cup of tea but if you don’t mind the 226 grams of weight in your pocket, this makes for an awesome knife that any established manufacturer would easily charge 5 times more for. For 22$, I rate the G722 as one of the most amazing bargains of all times and I cannot recommend it enough, I would buy it again in a heartbeat!
