The EL-01 in G10 is currently the oldest knife in my collection, I bought it 7 years ago for about 20$, the rosewood one followed about 1 year later.
This knife is one of the most popular Chinese knives on the market, getting universal praise with good reason. It has a great original design, is very well made and these days it costs under 15$ so it is an absolute bargain.
Apart from the handle material, and screws both knifes are identical. With an overall lenght of 21cm, the Knives are on the large side. 12mm thick, the G10 at 156 grams being 9 grams heavier than the rosewood model. The handles are screwed on skeletonized stainless steel liners. There is generous jimping all around the handles edge providing a good grip in any position without hot spots. Fit and finish of the handles is impeccable with no sharp edges or points. The pocket clip is right side tip up only, clipped inside a pocket, about 28mm of the knife protrude from the seam. There is a lanyard hole.
The only flaw I find on the Enlan EL-01 is the pivot screw that requires a special tool to adjust. I found that I can actually open that screw by hand but I have just learned that a drill chuck can also be used as a spanner to open and tighten it, see picture below.
The 3,5 mm thick drop point blade has a 10cm cutting edge, is made of 8Cr13MoV steel, flat ground and has a swedge. It is a very good looking blade and one of the reasons I chose the knife. The very short thumb ramp is without jimping. Out of the box they came reasonably sharp but they take a very good edge, regular honing is required though. The flipper action is great, the blade moves very smooth and the lockup is solid. Over time both my EL-01’s have developed a very slight sideways play when open but this has so far not affected the performance of them. When closed the blades are centered.
Allthough both of my EL-01’s get regular carry at work where they cut thick rubber and plastic hoses, rope, stripping wires, slicing bags, scraping metal surfaces, light prying etc, the rosewood model is used primarily for food prep and for EDC because I noticed that it draws much less attention when used in public because it doesn’t appear “tactical” The G10 has taken more use and abuse than any of my current knives, it was submerged in hydraulic oil, paint stripper, thinner, petrol and diesel, i used it in the desert and on tugboats in salt water and it shows but it still performs like on day one. To me it is a very desirable knife, beautiful and well made and I would buy it again in a heartbeat!
