My knife buying habit has taken a bit of a hit over the past 18 months, mainly because I have pretty much every one hand opening, locking knife design I am interested in. But of course, I still like more knives and receiving a new one is still a thrill that I cherish. This led me down the path of slipjoints, back to the basics if you will. And I was delighted to find a number of very attractive pocket knives, one of which is this TwoSun 161. The price was a bit of an issue at first, over 80$ for a small, Chinese made pocket knife with bone handles seems unrasonable. It's TwoSun though, let's see.
It arrived all oiled up and wrapped in bubble wrap inside a branded cardboard box, nothing of note. After a wipe down the first inspection revelaed a beautifully made pocket knife with an original design and a shaving sharp edge.
The creamy white bone scales are incredibly smooth and attached to the titanium bolsters by 2 torx screws. The entire handle is flawless and made with attention to detail. All edges line up perfectly, there are no hot spots or sharp edges anywhere. And I really love the feel of the bone scales, they have a special feel to them.
The 68mm long straight back blade is flat ground and looks very much like a puukko. It is advertised as M390 and I have no reason to doubt this claim. The sharpness and edge retention are phenomenal and I find the steel a challenge to sharpen, so far only once.
The spring tension is on the blade is good, all 3 detent position give confidence, yet it is a breeze to open thanks to that nail nick that goes trough the blade so it is ambidextrous.
For what it appears to be, this is a rather expensive knife but I am pleased with the purchase and the design, build quality and attention to detail do in my opinion justify the cost of just under 83$. It is a great knife that you can use anywhere without raising an eyebrow. It is comfortable to carry in any pocket, front or back as it can slide out of the way because it is so smoost and small. The only drawback is that I have to make a conscious effort to remember that this knife doesn't have a lock. At work I still wouldn't carry a slipjoint but off work almost nothing else.
