I have recently received a large consignment of knives that I ordered a while ago. Among them is a fake ZT0777 in carbon fiber and a fake titanium Strider SMF. Those 2 knives were among the most expensive ones in that batch. As it happens not all knives are delivered equal and both these knives had some serious issues concerning their opening action. While I had knives from china that were not perfect, I never had such issues with 50$ + knives, the Strider ws gritty beyond belief and the ZT wouldn’t flip despite a perfect detent. I have taken a few shitty cell phone pictures of the inside, see for yourself: The fake Strider: The 0777: The problem was caused by the heavy duty grease that had accumulated a lot of dirt that jammed the bearings. A good wipe and 2 drops of oil took care of it and both knives are now working perfectly and they are really awesome knives!

I was always surprised when I received a really well made knife that would cost 3 times the paid amount if it was western made (quality wise, not to mention IP cost) that the knives often come so dirty and sometimes even have metal fragments from machining. The big surprise though is not that they come dirty but that after cleaning they work like a charm

I am not surprised with the amount of grease. I always take it apart and remove all the grease with rubbing alcohol and use silicone grease.

I am not surprised with the amount of grease. I always take it apart and remove all the grease with rubbing alcohol and use silicone grease. These 2 came from different stores but had in common that they both were in showroom condition when I received them, not a spot of oil or speck of dust. The other Strider i received from the same store in the same delivery came in an identical box but was inside a plastic wrapper and soaked in oil. But as you say, a thorough clean and a gentle lube and all is well.
