My evolution in buying knives has slowly led me from the truly budget friendly knives to more expensive ones, not because I don’t enjoy a budget blade anymore but there are just so many amazing products in the 60 to 120$ range now. And when these CH knives started to turn up all over the internet I became very interested in them. An original design with quality components and raving reviews from everyone caring to share his experiences, what’s not to like!? So last year I pulled the trigger on this gold version of the CH 3504 for 78$ on DHgate.
Whoever makes these knives clearly knows how to build them! The fit & finish are absolutely flawless with an incredible attention to detail and workmanship. The ergonomics of the titanium handle are excellent providing comfortable grip in any position. Like the design or not, but that skull is machined with superb precision and the bead blasted and polished surfaces within look stunning. The pocket clip is right side tip up only and again made beautifully with a slight anodized finish. There is a lanyard hole.
The 3.8mm thick drop point blade is advertised as S35VN and flat ground. The jimping on the spine is grippy without being too rough and cut perfectly. Out of the box it came shaving sharp and its edge retention is very good indeed, the steel is certainly of very high quality whatever it may be. The flipper action is incredible! It fires with ease, lightning speed and smoothness that seem impossible for a knife of that price. When closing, the blade falls in place under its own weight, absolutely perfect! I own a couple of genuine quality flippers and the CH 3504’s action is as good if not better than any of those. The frame lock engages with authority and there is no blade play, the blade is perfectly centered when closed.
At 157 grams it is not a lightweight for a 21cm knife but it is nonetheless a great EDC knife for my needs. The design is likely not for everybody and I wouldn’t miss the skull if it wasn’t there even though I do love the precision and quality of the execution. I am still amazed by the quality of this knife and I have no doubt that this same knife from any renowned manufacturer would easily cost 250 to 300$. If flippers are your thing or if you are curious about one, look no further! I have yet to see workmanship and finish of this quality at this price point!
