About a year ago this knife caught my eye on DHgate. I was intrigued because of the asymmetrical blade grind. While I had no idea what that is all about, I liked the rest of it enough to part with the 49$ so I could find out more. It is made by Wild Boar and advertised as a Strider knife and while some details are leaning heavily on Strider designs, it doesn't bear any resemblance to an actual Strider model as far as I know. It shows no logo or name anywhere.
The handle is made of an anodized titanium framelock scale with overtravel stop and a slab of layered G10. The fit & finish is simply impeccable. The G10 has very nice texture machined into it showing 2 different colors and the Ti shimmers in heat anodized colors. The kife is very comfortable to hold with no apparent hot spots and the ergonomics are perfect any way you grab the knife. There is no lanyard hole. The anodized Ti clip is right side tip up only and the knife sits relatively low in the pocket with only about 15mm protruding from the seam. One issue I found regarding the clip is the overtravel stop. It sits too close to the clip meaning it is rather hard to pull the knife over the seam of the pocket because the stop disc gets in the way. The jimping on the handle is sufficcient and provides good traction, however the G10 side of it needed a little bit of sanding, it was too agressive for my liking. The jimping on the butt end was perfectly machined.
The 3.4mm thick tanto blade is advertised as D2 and has a complex hollow grind on the ground side. Out of the box it was shaving sharp and the strideresque finger choil makes for excellent choke up and blade control. The thumb studs are easy to reach and the blade can be flicked open using the thumb. The action is smooth, the blade has zero play and when closed it is perfectly centered. The frame lock engages with authority and the detent is just right.
After using the knife over the past 10 months or so I have to admit that I still don't get the whole asymmetry thing. Generaly speaking the blade pierces, cuts and slices very well but when peeling a carrot for example, the blade either moves into the cut or out of it. I find it difficult to use for precise work but maybe I ust don't use it properly but then again, it's a knife, it should cut stuff, right? On the upside, sharpening is quicker because there is only one side to do. I enjoy the unique looks of the asymmetrical grind and I like the ergonomics of the handle. It is very well made knife with quality steel sold at a very reasonable price. It is very comfortable to hold and at 143 grams not heavy for its size. I do not regret buying this knife but considering all it is more of a show piece and I wouldn't buy it again.
